Muslim Rajputs are those Rajputs who practice Islam. They are otherwise known as Musalman Rajputs in India. This clan is originally from North India, and they resided there too. They are warlike clans who ruled the country since ancient times. Rajputs have known to convert to Islam since the 13th century. They were also an active part of politics and other events.

A lot of them in Pakistan have engaged in Pakistani military, and have held very high ranks. They have always been known as aristocrats. The name Rajput means ruler and son. This word was derived centuries ago for the ruling clans. This term occurs in holy books of the Hindus. This name means royal warrior, but does not in any way imply that they are of royal descent.

This clan has known to be very chivalrous, and they also love battle. They are fearless when it comes to keeping up their honor. We can date back the history of the Muslim Rajputs to the history of the Muslim conquest of India. When the Muslims came to India, the Rajputs were rulers of the North and West India. They fought many battles with the Muslims to control South Asia.

Sometime in the 16th century, the Rajputs aided the Muslims in conquering India, and establishing their empires here. Most converts of the Rajput clan, have remained loyal to their faith, since the 13th century. Since Muslim leaders ruled the land, many of the Rajputs were influenced by them to convert to Islam. This can be considered to be political reasons.

The clan of the Muslims who are Rajputs also have the reputation of being one of the Muslim communities to practice Islam the right way. They have been admired by many Indian leaders including Jawaharlal Nehru. Most of the Muslim converts from the Rajput clan was ordered to change their names, so that the name would reflect on the faith.

They kept their original names, so that they could be traced back to their roots. The original Rajput code expects all Rajputs to marry within the caste. So the Muslim Rajputs were in a fix, and they began to marry Muslims from other clans. Still, some Rajputs who were Muslims wanted to stay true to their clan, and some of them still marry within their clan.

Most of this Muslim society in Rajputs, have an interesting way of recording their family trees over generations. Many of them have even known to date their ancestry back to their Hindu past. During the British rule, there were some Rajput leaders who faced problems because of their conversion. They were not accepted by their Hindu brothers.

The Muslim rulers were not asked to step down, but it was evident that they were not liked. However, they wanted to remain true to their faith and refused to accept Hinduism again. But it was declared that a ruler could not be judged according to their religion, and it only mattered if they ruled well or not.
