Islam Muslims Are The Second Largest Religious Community

Islam was founded in the seventh century by Prophet Muhammed. He was a highly religious figure in Arabia then. Islam is an Arabic word and it means the total submission of one’s self to God. Muslim is also an Arabic word, and it means one who surrenders to God. Though it originated in Arabia, the religion to spread to all parts of the world, and is now the fastest spreading religion in the world.

The total population of Muslims in the world is around 1 to 1.3 billion. It comes second only to Christianity in terms of population. The fundamental source of the religion Islam is the Koran. This is also known as the word of God, as revealed to Prophet Muhammed. Most Muslims believe that Islam is not a new religion, and that it just restored the faith of the previous religion that was followed by all prophets, including Moses and Jesus.

This is the most unique nature of Islam, as it mentions all the prophets from the Bible too. This is something that all religions do not care to respect. Some teachings in the Koran may differ though. While Moses and Jesus were known to live in celibacy, Islam encourages marriage, and it considers marriage as one of the most important institutions of life.

This is a very good point to note, as Islam encourages marriage to preserve mankind, to spread the word of Islam. This may be because that the religion says that most of the teachings of Christ were not passed on well throughout the generations, and some of the information may not be correct. The Muslims have five pillars of Islam that rule their daily lives.

Islam Muslims also have a lot of rules to abide by, when it comes to all aspects in life. The Muslims are divided into two main castes, the Sunni and Shia. The Sunnis believe that anyone can be a successor to the highest position in the religion, as long as they are capable of good leadership. The Shias believe that only the family members of Prophet Muhammed can hold that place, as they are of the same blood.

Islam teaches that there is only one God, and that He does not have any form, and He is present everywhere. They very firmly restrict idol worship. Their holy book is the Koran, and this book has all the teachings of the Prophet, which were recorded by his disciples. The Muslims are very religious and pray five times a day. They faithfully read the Koran every day, as it guides them in their daily lives.

The Muslims also have a very interesting custom that they follow every year. They make a religious trip to Mecca, which is considered their holy place. Most Muslims try to visit it at least once in a lifetime, if they cannot afford to go every year. They also have a very strict rule, when it comes to clothing. They have to be modest in dressing.
