Rules About The Muslim Dress Code

The Muslim community has always know to follow dress codes, ever since their culture began. The Koran, the holy book of the Muslims has specifications about how the Muslims should dress. Though the Muslim men too have dress restrictions, it is not so heavy as the Muslim women. The women are supposed to cover themselves fully, as they are not to reveal their bodies to anyone but their husbands.

This custom varies from country to country. In Afghanistan, the women in the Muslim world have to be covered in their traditional black dress, and only their eyes must be seen. They get beaten up by their Muslim husbands, even if a little bit of their ankles or other parts are shown. In countries like India, the women need not cover their heads too.

There has been a lot of criticism in the world about the dress code of the Muslims. A lot of countries to where the Muslims migrated to are not allowed to wear traditional dresses. For example in France, Muslim girls were asked to remove their traditional hijab, in French state schools. This is because the country does not want to force religious beliefs on anyone, and they feel that the wearing of traditional dresses may cause fear in the other citizens.

Muslim men and boys too have to wear long dresses and show the bare minimum of their skin. It is entirely up to the women of the Muslim religion sometimes, to decide when they want to wear the head dress. This has changed over the years, as earlier they were compelled to wear it as soon as they were mature enough to do so.

Women who are Muslims especially have to wear covered clothing when they are in public places. They can be a little less modest in the house in the presence of their families. There is a story behind the use of this type of clothing, related to Prophet Muhammed and his wife’s friend. There are several other codes that are related to the Muslim dress code.

When they wear dresses, it should most importantly identify them as Muslims and not followers of any other religion. The next thing is that the Muslims must all wear clothes that are not too flashy, and does not cost too much. Islam believes that we were not born for materialistic things but for spiritual achievement.

The dress the Muslim people wear must not be sore to the eyes of onlookers. Humans have been born with requirement for clothes, so a basic dress should be sufficient to cover themselves. Muslim converts must especially read the Koran, and the rules it implies on the dress code. It has been given in detailed verses in the holy book for Muslims.

Muslims who live in countries other than that of their origin will not find it too hard to find clothes, as there will be traditional Islamic clothing shops in most cities, available for both men and women.
