It is widely known in the world that Muslim women are highly protected in their society. From the time they are growing up to the time they get married, and raise childe, they are always protected by Muslim men. This is because it is written in the Koran, that Muslim men must always protect the women at any cost. They are taught to be very polite and respectful towards their mothers and sisters, and other sisters in the Muslim society.
Muslim women are also commanded by the Koran to wear clothes that may cover all the parts of her body. The issue of women in Islam is highly controversial. The situation will vary from culture to culture. While Muslim women in Afghanistan are seen wearing dresses that cover all the parts of her body, Muslims in countries like India may not do the same.
As the women’s movement in the West began in the twentieth century, it also slowly began for the Muslim women, but at a much slower pace. Women belonging to the Islamic religion did not ape the women of the West, but feminism in the Muslim world began to take on the Islamic forms. In a lot of countries, in a Muslim family, boy children are favored more than girl children, and the girls are often traded off in marriage very early.
The religion of the Muslims, Islam says that Muslim men and women are equal in every way. This has been proved by the division of labor after the marriage between a couple. A Muslim woman will have to equally share the burden of maintaining the family and the house. The Muslim women are however tied to other tasks like bearing and raising children, running the house and providing meals for her Muslim husband.
There are no restrictions upon the Muslim woman about when she has to get married. Even if a family does fix her marriage when she is very young, she will only go to her husband’s house when she is ready for sexual relations with him. During the marriage between a Muslim man and woman, the woman may ask her husband for any kind of gift or dowry. The husband then cannot deny her gifts of any kind.
Islam does not prevent women who are Muslims against becoming scholars. They may educate themselves in the right way, if they want to become scholars. But, all over the world the literacy rate of the Muslim women is comparatively low to that of Muslim men. This is a major stumbling block towards women in Islam achieving goals they want to reach.
This may be due to the reason that the Koran insists upon only the man providing financial help to his household. A Muslim woman does not need to give any money to her husband even if she earns it. Though Muslim women object to the strict dress code they have to wear, in some countries they still have to follow these rules.
