When we talk about Muslim feminism, we may think of several rules or strict laws that Muslim women may have to adhere to. In public and private life, all the women belonging to the Muslim society are equal in the eyes of God. Though this is said very explicitly in the Koran, we have seen Muslim men dominating the women across the world. Islamic feminism fights for the rights of Muslim women across the world. Though this movement is for Muslims, they have been encouraged by other feminist groups of the world to be a part of them.

Members of this movement, work towards bringing to light, the equality rights of Muslim women as mentioned in the Koran. This movement is not new and can be dated back to the previous century. This has obviously risen because, Islam says that women are equal to men in all aspects, but no one seems to be taking heed to this law. Some Islamic scholars view this as being more radical than secular feminism. A few years back education for women was not too popular. Most Muslim women were married off at a very young age.

Today, Muslim women have access to good educational standards, and this has helped them be part of the feminist movements in Islam. They are increasingly making their voices heard across the world. Many Islamic groups involved with feminism gather support from several groups in the world to support their cause. Many people have debated the success of these Muslim feminist movements, and whether their voices are ever going to be heard or not. The Koran says that Muslim men are superior but only because they are physically and emotionally more strong than the Muslim women. In all other aspects, the women are equal to the men.

The women cannot even be blamed for being less strong, because that is how God created them. This would also give a psychological balance between the two. Most of the women who are Muslims, who support such movements are the upper middle class, who have become financially independent with a good education. Muslim women who are born and also brought up in Western countries, play a major role in Islamic feminism. This is because most of them are born to Muslim immigrants, and they are treated to racism. They are also treated as lesser mortals within their own Muslim communities.

The rise of the Western world and its culture has been a great influence in the rise of feminism in Islam. The Western world has emphasized on good education, equal rights for women. The Muslim women have taken a cue from them. There is also a notable difference between Islamic feminism and Muslim feminism. The former supports women exclusively for all women of the Islamic faith, while the latter supports all women movements across the world. This is a big step forward for Muslim women, because they may make their voices heard, and prove that they are equal.
